Movie Showdown #2: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure vs. Encino Man

Here we go again, more films to battle bitterly to the end, let's see what movie is better!

Today's contestants:
The ingenious late 80s classic Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and the somewhat forgotten Brendan Fraser flick Encino Man.

Alright, enough talk, bring it on!

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure
Encino Man
Leading Men
Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter as Bill S. Preston, Esquire and Ted “Theodore” Logan aka WYLD STALLYNS (*play-air-guitar-enthusiastically*) (+4)
Brendan Fraser as Neanderthal Link, wimpy Sean Astin as Dave and 90s obscurity Pauly Shore as Stoney (+3)
What’s the story?
Two excellent dudes have to travel through time to finish a history assignment. Brilliant. (+3)
A caveman is unfrozen and becomes the star of the local high school. Nothing short of genius. (+2)
Set in California?
Nope, although Arizona is not too far off. (+0)
Most definitely! (+1)
Villain
I guess there is no real villain here, unless you’re counting Ted’s stuck up Dad. (+1)
Michael DeLuise is Matt Wilson, a 90s high school douchebag deluxe, a guy we love to hate. (+3).
Poster

Well, who wouldn’t want to see a movie featuring a phone booth blasting through space with two dudes on top while the man in the moon is looking on rather awkwardly? (+2)

Judging from this poster I guess evolution’s finest is Brendan Fraser on a skateboard. Should we cheer or cry? (+2)
Words of Wisdom
“All we are is dust in the wind, dude.”
Deep. (+3)
“The truth is, bro, life’s about greasing the ‘do back, buddy, and wheezin’ on the buff-fest, man.” (+2)
Any montages?
You bet! (+1)
Is that even a question? (+1)
What’s at stake?
Just saving the future, no biggie. (+3)
Nothing really, I guess. (+0)
Has time travel in it?
Yup, plenty. (+4)
Technically not, but Link is frozen and wakes up thousands of years later, so there you go. (+1)
Random trivia
Encino Man’s Pauly Shore auditioned for the role of Ted which eventually went to Keanu Reeves. (+2)
They initially tried to get Nicholas Cage for the Brendan Fraser role. Picture that! (+4)
Director
Stephen Herek who also brought us the Gremlins clone Critters and Terrence Malick’s favorite movie The Mighty Ducks (+3)
Les Mayfield who made us all hate cute little puppies for some time thanks to the abysmal live-action version of 101 Dalmatians (+0)
Did it go anywhere?
A sequel, an animated and live-action TV show, comics, video games and constant talk about a third film. So yeah, this one definitely went somewhere. (+3)
There was a made-for-TV movie that was kind of a sequel named Encino Woman. Apart from that, not much. (+1)
Total Score
28
20

Looks like we have a winner! Bill & Ted wipe the floor with Encino Man!
