Well, it's only taken them 9 years, so let's have a look, shall we?
Here's the recap: In 2005 Robert Rodriguez adapted Frank Miller's cult comic Sin City for the big screen and created a modern classic that not only wowed the comic book crowd by sticking to the visuals of the original but that also connected with critics and the mainstream audience. Talk of a sequel began pretty much right afterwards. Now it's almost a decade later and things have changed a little bit, seemingly not for the better.
Robert Rodriguez's star has faded a bit in recent years given that he's mostly directed crap like the fourth Spy Kids and the unasked for Machete and its sequel. Frank Miller didn't do much better when he tried his hand at directing the incredibly obnoxious The Spirit. Add to that the passing away of Michael Clarke Duncan and Brittany Murphy of the first Sin City and the fact that the novelty factor of a frame-by-frame comic book adaptation has worn off since 2005.
But there might be a silver lining. A whole bunch of actors from the first movie are returning, including Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson and, of course, the irreplaceable Mickey Rourke. Newcomers you can look forward to are heavy hitters like Josh Brolin, Eva Green and Ray Liotta.
Let's keep our finger crossed that the end result turns out as good as the first film. We will be able to pass judgment in about half a year, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For is currently slated for release on August 22, 2014.
